01 Data We Collect

Bunko eReader has no user accounts and no server of its own. We do not collect, store or transmit any of the following:

The app contains no advertising, analytics or crash-tracking SDK. The only third-party components that communicate over the internet are the purchase SDK described in section 04 and the translation service described in section 05, and both are limited to the single task they perform.

02 Data Stored on Your Device

For the app to work, the following information is kept only on your own device, in the app's private storage:

• Your library: the books you have added and their metadata (title, author, cover)
• Reading progress, such as the page or chapter you left off on
• Highlights, notes, bookmarks and collections you create
• Reading statistics, streaks and the yearly summary, computed from your own reading sessions
• Reader preferences such as font size, theme, line spacing and page-turn style
• A pagination cache so pages open faster
• Whether Bunko Pro is active on this device (a cached status, see section 04)

None of this data is sent to us. It leaves your device only if you export or share it yourself (see section 06), or if your operating system's own backup feature (such as Google Drive or iCloud device backup) includes app data. Those system backups are governed by Google's or Apple's privacy policy, not by ours.

03 File Access

The app asks for access to your files so it can open the EPUB, PDF, Word, Excel, text and ZIP files you select from within the app. It uses the system file picker and only reads the files you choose; it does not scan your storage. Your book files are read, processed and stay on your device. They are never transmitted outside the app.

Read-aloud uses your device's built-in text-to-speech engine. The text is spoken by the operating system on the device. If the system engine you have chosen downloads voice data, that is handled by the engine's provider (for example Google or Apple), not by Bunko.

04 Bunko Pro and Purchases

Bunko Pro is an optional in-app purchase. Payment is processed entirely by Google Play or the Apple App Store. Bunko never sees your name, payment method or card details.

To check whether a purchase is valid and to restore it on a new device, the app uses RevenueCat, a subscription management service. When you open the paywall, purchase or restore, the following is sent to RevenueCat:

• A randomly generated, anonymous app user ID that is not linked to your name or email
• The purchase receipt issued by Google Play or the App Store
• Basic device information such as platform, operating system version and app version

RevenueCat uses this only to validate and manage your purchase. It is not used for advertising, and we do not combine it with any other data. RevenueCat's handling of this data is described in the RevenueCat Privacy Policy.

05 Tap-to-Translate

Bunko Pro includes a tap-to-translate feature. When you tap a word or select a passage and open the lookup panel, only that selected text is sent to Google Translate so it can be translated and, for single words, given dictionary meanings.

• The request contains the selected text and your target language. It does not include your name, an account, the book title or any identifier from the app.
• Google may process the text under the Google Privacy Policy.
• Nothing is sent unless you explicitly use the lookup. Reading, highlighting and note-taking never trigger a request.
• If the translation service cannot be reached, the app may offer to open Google Translate in your browser. That page is then subject to Google's policy.

Bunko does not store the translated text on any server. Results are shown on screen and kept only on your device.

06 Backup, Export and Sharing

You can export your reading data and share content from the app. All of these are started by you and use your device's standard share sheet:

• Backup and restore creates a file containing your reading progress, notes, highlights, collections and statistics. You choose where to save or send it. Anyone with that file can read its contents, so store it somewhere you trust.
• Notes export, quote cards and the yearly summary produce a file or image that you can send to any app you pick.

Bunko does not upload these files anywhere. Once you hand a file to another app or service, its privacy policy applies.

07 Internet and Third Parties

Apart from the two cases above, Bunko eReader works entirely offline. It contains no advertising network, no analytics library and no crash-reporting service. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with any third party for their own purposes.

The third parties that may process data when you use the corresponding feature are:

• Google Play / Apple App Store: payment and receipts for Bunko Pro
• RevenueCat: purchase validation and restore (section 04)
• Google Translate: translation of text you select (section 05)

08 Children's Privacy

Bunko eReader is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children. The app contains an optional in-app purchase; purchases are controlled by the parental controls and payment settings of Google Play or the App Store on the device.

09 Deleting Your Data

All reading data is kept only on your device, so it remains under your control. You can permanently delete it by clearing the app's storage or by uninstalling the app.

The anonymous purchase record held by RevenueCat contains no personal information. If you would still like it deleted, email us with the request from the device in question and we will ask RevenueCat to remove it.

10 Changes to This Policy

This privacy policy may be updated from time to time, for example when a new feature changes how data is handled. Any changes will be posted on this page and the "last updated" date at the top will be revised accordingly.
